Jenny Hendy

Jenny Hendy has turned a lifelong passion for plants and wildlife into a thriving career as a gardening author, designer, teacher and presenter. After gaining an Honours Degree in Botany, Hendy worked in horticultural retail before joining the research and writing team of Gardening Which? Magazine. Taking a short sabbatical, she joined a French expedition to the South American rainforest, studying the canopy via a giant hot air balloon raft, ‘Le Radeau des Cimes’. On turning freelance, Hendy began writing for magazines and designing private gardens. Shortly after her first book ‘Quick and Easy Topiary’ was published in 1996 she became editor for the newly formed European Boxwood and Topiary Society. In 2010 Hendy’s ‘Kid’s First Gardening Book’ won the prestigious Garden Media Guild Award for Best Practical Gardening Book. Hendy undertakes design commissions both at home in the UK and abroad, most recently in Mallorca. Hendy’s enthusiasm for gardening is infectious and she maintains a busy schedule of workshops, talks and demos as well as guesting on BBC Radio Stoke’s gardening phone-in. She leads the adult teaching programme at the Grosvenor Garden Centre’s gardening school near Chester and together with artist Viv Palmer, runs after school clubs and children’s nature-based workshops.
